Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230: Driver version for Windows 8.1 64 Bit

I've an MSI Z87I board with an Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 running under Windows 8.1 Pro 64 Bit.

I've downloaded the latest driver, version 16.7.0, from Download Center (Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for IT Administrators): "Wireless_16.7.0_De164.zip".

This package includes a driver "Intel Wireless WiFi Link Adapters" "Installation Script for Windows Blue 64 bit" (i.e. Windows 8.1), Netwbw02.INF, but this driver will not be used!

Instead the driver NETwew00.sys will be used!

Name: Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230

Device ID: PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0887&SUBSYS_40628086&REV_C4\4&33814C64&0&00E4

Driver: C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\NETwew00.sys, 15.10.0005.0001 (English), 10/31/2013 06:16:56, 3346912 bytes

Driver: C:\Windows\system32\DRIVERS\Netwfw00.dat, 10/31/2013 06:16:58, 6200436 bytes

Driver: C:\Windows\system32\drivers\vwifibus.sys, 6.03.9600.16384 (German), 8/22/2013 12:39:00, 24576 bytes

Netwew00.INF says that it is the "Installation Script for Windows8 64 bit" and so it's not the driver for Windows 8.1.

Why is the driver for Windows 8 (NETwew00.sys: DriverVer   = 10/31/2013,15.10.5.1) in use and not the driver for Windows 8.1 (Netwbw02.sys: DriverVer   = 10/14/2013,16.6.0.8)?

I also tried the latest version for end-customers Download Center (Wireless_16.7.0_De164.exe) but nothing changes.

The ID PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0887&SUBSYS_40628086 is only in the INF files for Windows 7 and Windows 8 but not in the INF file for Windows Blue (= 8.1).

Why is the latest driver for Windows 8.1 not supporting my Wireless-N 2230?
